bill viola2Submerged is a 10’18’’ high-res colour video on plasma screen installed on a vertical wall with stereophonic sound (cm. 121,2x72,4x9) and featuring Bill Viola’s self-portrait.

Donated to the Uffizi in 2013, it will be on display in Room 43 until the 23rd of July, in conjunction with the “Bill Viola. Electronic Renaissance” exhibit at Palazzo Strozzi inaugurated on the 10th of March and focused on the career of the artist.

Considered as the main contemporary representative of visual arts, he worked in Florence during the ‘70s as chief engineer at Art/Tapes/22, one of the first European ateliers in the field. His strong relationship with the city of Florence over the years arises from his great appreciation for Renaissance masterpieces, a constant source of inspiration to experiment unusual comparisons with modern times.
