Nicolas Froment - The Restoration of "The Raising of Lazarus"
Uffizi - Fireplace Room
7 March - 30 April 2017 - Eventi
Restored thanks to the contribution of the Amici degli Uffizi association, the triptych is on display from the 7th of March to the 30 of April in the Fireplace Room on the first floor of the Uffizi. Dated 1461, it is signed by the French artist Nicolas Froment, born in Picardy and active in Provence for a long time, of whom only a few works survive. It represents one the most remarkable works by foreign artists of the 15th century in the Uffizi’s collections, as well as a significant evidence of the Italian interest for Northern European painting. Coming from the Franciscan Convent of Bosco ai Frati located in the Mugello area in Tuscany, it entered the Florentine Galleries due to the secularization of ecclesiastical properties during the Napoleonic period. The recent restoration has recovered the chromatic brilliance of the painting, making tiny and interesting details more visible. Furthermore, it allowed to assert the originality of most elements composing the frame, among which the beautiful Gothic fretwork in the central panel.
Opening hours: 08.15am-06.50pm from Tuesday to Saturday.
